DONT PANIC! Potential Slow Starting Studs – 2024 Fantasy Football Advice
we always tell you your league is not one and lost at draft time but one of the most critical parts of your season comes right after that the first few weeks where things can get a little bit weird where studs can start slow and where you really need to keep from panicking and selling off guys that you think won't bring it back yo what's going on headliner nation and today's video I'm going to be jumping into a few teams that may have a rough start to the season season and because of that the studs on those teams your fantasy assets may get off to a slow start and we see it in the comment section every single season somebody got overly worried about a player with a slow start sold them off and then that guy ended up bouncing back and having a huge rest of the season don't make that mistake to figure out which studs may have the toughest start to the season I dove into our matchup meter over in our draft guide that's where we evaluate every single defense and then rank them in order of how tough they are to face what we do is we take a look at where every defense left off after the 2023 season who did they lose who did they add via free agency or the draft did their scheme change at all and then we went through and we put them in a ranking to determine which defenses would be the toughest to face this year and these are the teams that had some of the toughest starts to their 2024 season now while we're extremely confident in how we go about evaluating defenses things are always subject to change maybe there ends up being a key injury maybe a rookie that they felt would make an impact to start the season just doesn't do it or maybe one of those big free agent signings just doesn't turn out the way that they had planned whatever it may be maybe some of these defenses don't end up being nearly as tough as we thought but that's while will be evaluating through the first several weeks of the season to determine whether or not we're selling early or holding for as long as possible but Atlanta is the first team that could end up having a tough start to the season so we're keeping an eye on the guys that you're drafting pretty high like bejan Robinson Drake London and Kyle Pitts but even Kurt Cousins who's really kind of a late round stash at the quarterback position right now is a guy that also could get off to a slow start they've got some tough defense is they're going to face to start the season and Kurt Cousins is working his way back from that Achilles injury how long does it take for him to shake off the rust and get back to the Kurt Cousins that we've seen over the course of his career so far now the good news here is that only one of their first five matchups are on the road going to Philadelphia won't be an easy task though in the draft and free agency they really tried adding to their secondary so their pass defense was not nearly as horrible as it was at the end of last season and they really are much improved but Pittsburgh's going to have that tough pass rush that Kurt Cousins going to have to try and get away from and move around in the pocket during week one Kansas City always has an underrated defense when we're talking about the defensive rankings every single season it just doesn't feel like Kansas City has talked about enough even though they're playing very well a majority of the time and teams like New Orleans and Tampa Bay definitely could still have an improve to offense or be similar to what we saw from them last season all of these matchups to begin the year aren't the toughest matchups that we've seen but on the road in Philadelphia and week one against Pittsburgh absolutely could be a huge issue to begin the year for Atlanta for bejan Drake Kyle pittz and Kurt Cousins we can't give up on them after a few slow starts we have to make sure that we stick with those guys we're using some really strong draft capital on them they're also learning new offensive scheme and because of that maybe that takes a little bit of time as well after the first few weeks of the Season we'll adjust if it really is that bad and there's no signs of life it may be time to move on from them but realistically if you're spinning a first round pick on bejan Robinson and a second round pick on Drake London we won't be trading either of those guys anytime soon but I'll tell you trading for bejan Robinson could be a GameChanger a few weeks into the season whoever drafted him may be upset because last year obviously was up and down and the start of 2024 maybe it ended up being tough and because of that they don't want to deal with it all off season long get him at a discount and you may have yourself a huge asset down the stretch there's already some concerns about the Buffalo Bills offense they have taken away key veterans from that offense like Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis and instead they've inserted a rookie in their place in Keon Coleman they're hoping khil secure can step up and that dton King Kade takes the next step as well week two at Miami and week three at Jacksonville definitely could end up being tough matchups Buffalo should be okay in those matchups but it's the three game stretch after that that could really break this offense because they're going to have to go to Baltimore to Houston and then to the New York Jets those three defenses could be some of the best defenses that we see in all of football this season now Baltimore lost their defensive coordinator but that doesn't mean that they're still not going to be sound on the defensive side of the ball and having to play them in Baltimore is going to be rough now week two at Miami definitely could end up balancing out a little bit because when you get into a shootout with the Miami Dolphins you obviously have a chance to put up points based on volume alone so even though Buffalo may not be super efficient in week two at Miami having to play with them and the offense just means more volume opportunity for everybody and that could offset the really poor floor that they may have now I specifically mention Josh Allen James Cook and Dalton canade here because those are the three that you're drafting the highest all three of those guys are going anywhere from the second to fifth round but I didn't really add in Keon Coleman cuz Keon Coleman isn't a stud yet he's not really a guy that we're really leaning on for Fantasy value if you drafted him you probably drafted him to fill in at the flex or be a wide receiver three during this stretch here you absolutely could just send him to the bench and not need to worry about the potential issues there but if you draft Josh Allen James Cook and Dalton concade you're going to have to play him during this stretch and you know what even Dallas Cowboys were in it to win it this season it didn't feel like Jerry Jones took upgrading the offense all that serious they tried to piece a few things together there but as it really all that better than last year we're going to find out right away with a tough start to the 2024 season going to Cleveland in week one is not going to be easy then they're going to have to face New Orleans at home and then Baltimore is coming to Dallas in week three but then Pittsburgh and Detroit back toback in week five and week six could end up being the icing on the cake to a tough start for the season going to Pittsburgh is Tough Enough having to face their pass rush makes it even worse and then what about that Detroit secondary in week six it is much improved the defensive line is going to get after it this team tackles well and they're going to have a chip on their shoulder wanting to avenge that awful loss last season that they feel like was stolen from them now we've been drafting cidd lamb is a top three pick all off season based on the volume alone and Jake Ferguson continues to be a huge value in the middle rounds of your draft but it's the efficiency and the upside of this team that is going to worry me sometimes the floor is going to be fine with CD lamb and Jake Ferguson now CD lamb you're definitely going to start him every single week he's never going to the bench and if you drafted Jake Ferguson as your tight end one and didn't back him up you're not really going to have any better options so floorwise will still end up being okay but what if the Run game is absolutely horrid for the Dallas Cowboys this year if Rico D doesn't end up being that good if Zeke really did lose a step dvin cook maybe he's cook now and his career is over with the offensive line they took a little bit of a hit what if they're not as good as that we've seen in years past there's a lot of issues Brandon Cooks maybe he's not the answer on the other side of CD lamb maybe there's not going to be enough weapons around CD lamb and Jake Ferguson to take the pressure off to not allow a whole lot of double teams and to also give up those big plays and while cidd lamb and Jake Ferguson will be fine in terms of their floor with volume that doesn't necessarily mean that Dak Prescott is going to be a locked in top 12 option every single week turnovers could be a problem completions could be a problem just because he throws it 40 times a game doesn't mean it's going to be the most efficient 40 passes you've ever seen we're going to find out a lot about this Dallas offense over the first few weeks Anthony Richardson Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pitman for the Indianapolis Colts definitely could see a slow start especially as Anthony Richardson works his way back from that season ending injury early last season if there's a little bit of rust there the defenses that they face over the first few weeks of the Season absolutely could cause that to show up week one against Houston absolutely is going to be a tough one Houston's defense is going to bring it the defending AFC South Champions are going to want to put it to Indianapolis week one and then week two they're going to end up needing to go to Green Bay week three going up against Chicago is going to be no Cakewalk their defense is going to be pretty good this season and then Pittsburgh once again it feels like their name continues to pop up in this video they were one of the key characteristics in terms of all the teams that we're talking about getting off to potential slow starts that pass rush is absolutely no joke and then heading to Jacksonville in week five on the road could end up being a tough one as well Indianapolis is one of those teams that's a little bit more on either side for me it definitely could end up being a very tough start but not every single matchup may be make or break for them but a lot of it is going to depend on Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor both of those guys need to be healthy early in the season this year and they need to stay healthy Anthony Richardson is going to have to figure things out and figure things out quickly he looked good at times last season even this pre-season he's looked good at times but you can still see some of the raw abilities in his tools showcase themselves and he makes some mistakes some of that rust from being injured last season and not being any game action since then also is going to show up it could be some up and down performances we're going to see some highlights and we're going to see some highlights that we just don't want to open our eyes for the Jacksonville Jags are going to have to be on the road for four of their first six six games to start the season this year so Travis etn Trevor Lawrence Evan Ingram Christian Kirk if you even want to throw Brian Thomas Jr in here as well all of these guys could definitely be in for some up and down performances at Miami to begin the season and we already kind of talked about that one right that's a matchup where even if Miami's defense plays well their offense putting up a bunch of points could lead to a ton of volume for the offense which could end up offsetting some of that weak floor that we see at home versus Cleveland definitely going to be tough Cleveland's defense should be just as good as what we saw last season but then in weeks three and weeks four they're going to have to go to Buffalo and then Houston they may get a little bit of a break with Indianapolis IN week five but then going to Chicago in week six continues that string of tough defenses now Travis etn we're not investing in him as highly as we did last season he's actually a little bit of a discount this year compared to where you needed to draft him last season which is great he's normally going to be your rb1 or rb2 so we're probably not going to be sitting him anytime soon and hopefully any tough matchups on the ground are offset with some passing game work this season but they've already talked about wanting to lighten his load a little bit and while it's not enough to scare me it's definitely enough to worry about how high the ceiling could go especially against some of these tough teams but it's a make or break year for Trevor Lawrence we've seen good we've seen bad and we've seen really really bad we need to see way more good this year and if they get off to a slow start people are going to start turning on Trevor Lawrence that's not good for him for the offense or for this team I've already expressed a lot of concerns with Christian Kirk especially if he's not used in two wide receiver sets nearly as often as a wide receiver would need to be to be consistently fantasy viable Evan Ingram though should be a huge Target hog once again this season last year one of the top Target Getters not only at tight end but in the entire NFL and once again this season even with Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas on board he should still be the safety net for Trevor Lawrence in games like this where Trevor Lawrence is going to have to get the ball out quickly Evan Ingram may not have a lot of upside like we saw last year but his floor probably isn't going to be all that bad Minnesota's going to be a tough offense to read right away and we're going to find out a lot about how good they are over the first few weeks of the season is Sam darnold really going to be the answer to their question marks and if not it could be a really long season for Minnesota but Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones are the two that we're probably the most worried about cuz TJ hackinson isn't going to be ready to start the season and talk about a crap schedule to start if you drafted Justin Jefferson in the first round let's just hope the rest of your team gets off to a fast start to potentially help with any type of issues that he sees here at home against San Francisco and Houston on the road against Green Bay and the New York Jets this is going to be tough to start the year Sam darnold is going to have to be really good and he's not going to be able to turn the ball over Aaron Jones is going to have to run the ball out of the back field and if all those things can end up being positive for Minnesota Justin Jefferson should still get his but if they can't pass the ball efficiently and they can't run the football at all Justin Jefferson could end up having a tough few weeks to begin the year but you know what that just makes him an awesome trade candidate a few weeks into the season another stud that if someone gives up early on we are going to jump all over it and try to get him at a discount now I wouldn't say the Tennessee Titans have a ton of studs will Levis is only being drafted as a quarterback two right now no one is probably going to be starting him at the beginning of the Season outside of you super flexers and two QB leagues so even at that point maybe there's a little bit of a better option to begin the season for you DeAndre Hopkins is still banged up and we don't know if he's going to play in week one the hope is is yes he will be out there and he will be fine but Tony Pard he's going to be splitting time in the backfield with Taj Spears and Calvin Ridley is learning a new offense getting used to will Levis and is going to need to try an shine DeAndre Hopkins on the other side so maybe Tennessee isn't really as heavily invested in as some of these other teams that we've talked about and some of these other players that we've talked about so these may not be studs that we're starting every single week but for some of you in deeper leagues there's absolutely going to be some of these guys that you may be trying to play right away now this is definitely not the toughest schedule that we've talked about going to Chicago in week one that's going to be a tough first test for this new new looking offense then at least they get the New York Jets at home but that's where we're going to find out how far will Levis has progressed from last season against that secondary and then they're going to get Green Bay at home before going to Miami in week four Miami once again could end up being a tough defense but there could be more than enough volume to help support these guys still Tennessee for me definitely doesn't have the stud criteria that we've kind of talked about with other teams in this video but it's definitely worth noting because it's still a really tough start to the season and for those of you that felt like maybe you got to deal with any of these players maybe it would be best in your offense to go with somebody else to begin the season since these guys really aren't main contributors that you drafted early on in headliner Nation this season we plan to do more one-off videos than we've ever done before you've come to expect our start and sit videos our rankings our live shows waiver wire videos but this year we want to talk more in depth
